Juneau Reports Montana Schools Outpace Nation in Reading

Monday, March 29, 2010  The reading skills of Montana students continue to exceed the national average, new findings show. The National Assessment of Educational Progress, also called "The Nation's Report Card," out today, details the continued achievement of Montana fourth- and eighth-graders on the tests, administered by the U.S. Department of Education earlier this year. 

"Montana has the best teachers in America," said Superintendent Denise Juneau. "The hard work and innovation happening in Montana's classrooms is paying off as we can see with these top-notch results. I am proud of all of our students and teachers."

The Montana eighth-grade average score ranked among the highest five state average scores, along with nine other states and the Montana fourth-grade average score also ranked among the five highest state average scores along with 14 other states.  (Some state scores were equal.)
