I was honored as the </span><a href="http://www.nativetimes.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2587:niea-names-denise-juneau-indian-educator-of-the-year&catid=50&Itemid=26"><span style="font-family: Tahoma; ">2009 Educator of the Year </span></a><span style="font-family: Tahoma; ">by the National Indian Education Association.  I also serve on the executive board of the nation's largest non-profit education accrediting organization (<a href="http://www.ncate.org/">National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education</a>) and the education workforce committee of my national group, the Council of Chief State School Officers.</span></p > <h3> </h3> <h3><span style="font-family: Tahoma; ">Serving Schools and Communities   </span></h3> <p><span style="font-family: Tahoma; ">With the infusion of federal stimulus money and state Early Reading First grants, schools will be able to hire more preschool teachers and help more low-income and special-needs students learn to read at an early age.  More schools than ever before are able to provide </span><a href="http://www.billingsgazette.com/news/local/education/article_3ea38a64-c5d9-11de-9a34-001cc4c002e0.html"><span style="font-family: Tahoma; ">fresh fruits and vegetables to students thanks to grants from the Office of Public Instruction</span></a><span style="font-family: Tahoma; ">.  We're also doing our part to </span><a href="http://www.billingsgazette.com/news/state-and-regional/montana/article_35f955d8-cc0a-11de-9a1f-001cc4c002e0.html"><span style="font-family: Tahoma; ">promote local agriculture</span></a><span style="font-family: Tahoma; "> and </span><a href="http://www.theprairiestar.com/articles/2009/12/09/ag_news/local_and_regional_ news/local47.txt”"><span style="font-family: Tahoma; ">advance agriculture education</span></a><span style="font-family: Tahoma; "> in Montana. line-height: 115%">We will be doing <b><u>campaign literature drops</u></b>all across the state. Literature drops are a vital part of any campaign and a great way to make sure your community knows about the Superintendent’s race. Please consider doing a lit drop in your neighborhood. You don’t have to talk to anyone – just leave a piece of campaign literature at the door.  This is a great way to get in your exercise for the day and help the campaign at the same time! If you are interested in lit drops, please send an email to <a href="mailto:teamjuneau@bresnan.net"><font color="#0000ff">teamjuneau@bresnan.net</font></a> letting us know your contact information.   </span></div> <div style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%">Our campaign team has been working very hard to raise the necessary money to make sure we have a media presence. In fact, if you live in the Billings, Great Falls, or Missoula areas, you should see the Juneau for Superintendent Campaign on your TV screen this week. </span></div> <div style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%">We continue our travels across Montana meeting with voters everywhere. Most recently, I attended the Montana Education Forum in Helena, was the MC at the Harvest Moon Ball in East Glacier, attended a Democratic Office opening in Whitehall, visited with regional-area school superintendents in Missoula and teachers at the Missoula Education Association regional meeting, attended the Teton County Democratic Central Committee, “Rocked the Vote” in Billings, attended the Broadwater County Fall Fest and walked with the Democrats in their parade, had fundraisers in Missoula and Dillon, and had the honor of visiting with retired educators from all across the state at their annual conference in Great Falls.</span></div> <div style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;
